UPA Integrated Laboratory of Mataram University Successfully held the International Mini Symposium-2024

Mataram University, through its Integrated Laboratory Unit (UPA), successfully hosted the prestigious International Mini Symposium 2024 on Monday, July 8, 2024. The symposium, themed “Integration of Transdisciplinary Studies for Promotion of Human and Environmental Health,” aimed to promote human and environmental health through the integration of cross-disciplinary studies.

The event was opened with remarks by Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., the Rector of Mataram University. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of international collaboration and multidisciplinary approaches in research to address global challenges in human and environmental health.

The symposium featured several distinguished speakers from various international institutions. Among them was Prof. Masato Yasui, Ph.D., from Keio University, Japan, who presented on the role of Aquaporin-4 protein in neurodegenerative disorders. Dr. Park Hansan, Director of the Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC), also shared a case study on Marine Potential Mapping in the Kei Islands, Awang Bay, and Batur Lake.

Other notable speakers included Prof. Yasuhiro Kato, Ph.D., from Keio University, who discussed the Aqua platform for evaluating water, disease, and food using NIR spectroscopy. Prof. Dr. Ir. Ekowati Chasanah, M.Sc., from BRIN, spoke on the future applications of halophilic archaea isolated from salt ponds in Nusa Tenggara. Additionally, apt. Anggit L. S., M.Sc., Ph.D., from Mataram University, presented on lipid compounds from natural sources for pharmaceutical applications.

Held in the Senate Conference Room at Mataram University, the event garnered significant enthusiasm from the participants, reflecting its success in capturing the interest of academics and researchers.

This Mini Symposium was organized by the Integrated Laboratory Unit (UPA), the Center for Excellence in Biosciences and Biotechnology (PUBB), and the master’s Program in Biology at Mataram University, with support from various partners. The success of this event highlights Mataram University’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education and research through cross-disciplinary and international collaboration.
