UMCMB Participates in China-ASEAN Seaweed Forum and Chairman Symposium in Guangzhou

The University of Mataram International Tropical Seaweed Center (UMCMB) proudly took part in the China-ASEAN Seaweed Corporation Forum and Chairman-Level Symposium of Seaweed Associations, held in Guangzhou, China, from July 12 to 14, 2025.

Representing UMCMB, Dr. Eka Sunarwidhi Prasedya was invited as a speaker to deliver a talk on “Strengthening Indonesia’s Seaweed Coastal Communities through Biotechnology and Genomic Knowledge Transfer.” His presentation emphasized the critical role of science-driven innovation in empowering coastal communities, particularly in Indonesia’s eastern provinces, through improved seedstock, genomic mapping, and inclusive technology transfer strategies.

The forum brought together key stakeholders across Asia’s seaweed sector—including researchers, industry leaders, and government representatives—to strengthen regional collaboration, share breakthroughs, and align efforts in promoting sustainable and high-value seaweed cultivation.

UMCMB’s participation marks another important step in its commitment to advancing marine biotechnology and fostering regional partnerships that support the growth of Indonesia’s seaweed economy.
